Vitesse – Vitesse GOALS
The Vitesse GOALS project has been delivered in the Arnhem district of Malburgen Immerloo since the beginning of 2017. In this district there is an increased percentage of children, aged 6 – 12, with (serious) overweight problems and/or too low sport participation.
Vitesse GOALS school program
In the first phase of the project, Vitesse Betrokken coaches are active at five primary schools. The aim of the school program is to make children more aware of a healthy lifestyle and also to actually get them moving. The five participating primary schools are:
- The Mosaic
- The Margarethaschool
- The Johannesschool
- The Pastor of Ars
- The Monchy School
All grades from grade 4th to grades 8th are offered an eight-week intervention during the gym classes. They learn about healthy food and exercise through interactive football games. Here the link is made with the first-team players of Vitesse.
In addition to the exercise intervention, Vitesse Betrokken supports the schools in drawing up and optimising the healthy school policy. Consider, for example, the sporty interpretation of breaks and a healthy treat policy.
Vitesse GOALS after-school program
In the second phase of the program, after-school courses are offered. This phase of the program is for children from eight to twelve years with (serious) overweight issues, lack of exercise and/or too little sport participation.
The participants will work on improving their lifestyle for twelve weeks . During exercise programmes, children learn about healthy food, exercise and lifestyle. This happens in group sessions and exercise sessions. In addition, the parents of the participating children are closely involved in this process. They have a big influence on the lifestyle of the child.
After the twelve weeks, the children are escorted towards a sports club or sports offer in the neighborhood. The coach monitors whether the children move sufficiently every week. In this way Vitesse Betrokken gains insight into the long-term effect of the intervention.
The program is drawn up is collaboration with the Vitesse Lab, the chef of Vitesse, Nutrition & Dietetics students of the HAN University of Applied Sciences and the VU Medical Center.
