Shakhtar Players Engage in #Morethanfootball Activities
Shakhtar Donetsk, players and its charity arm, Shakhtar Social Foundation, have been involved in numerous activities as part of the community and social responsibility (CSR) activities and the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks campaign. These included presenting children with special needs signed #Morethanfootball t-shirts and a visit to a children’s hospital.
On Wednesday 23 September, Shakhtar’s Brazilian defender visited the Western Ukrainian Specialised Children’s Medical Centre in Lviv. He spent time with a fan of his, 11-year old Maksym Luzan who is an oncological patient undergoing treatment at the centre’s surgical department. Vitao presented Luzan with a personalised and signed Shakhtar number 10 jersey along with an autographed football.
“I am glad that I could come here and put a smile on Max’s face. It’s pleasant and invaluable to me. All children have a dream. It’s enough for me to remember myself: I really love football, and for me as a child meeting with one of the idols had always been my dream. It’s good that I came here, hopefully I managed to give him at least a little bit of joy. It’s difficult to speak at such moments, but I wish him some great strength. He should fight, never give up, and then, I believe, everything will be fine,” said Shakhtar’s Vitao.
Meanwhile, all the club players engaged in #Morethanfootball activities with children who have limited opportunities who received signed Action Weeks t-shirts. It is the fourth consecutive year that Shakhtar is participating in the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks whose goal is to showcase the power of football as a social tool.
