#Morethanfootball Action Weeks to Support Fare Network Campaign
The European Football for Development Network (EFDN) campaign #Morethanfootball Action Weeks will support the #FootballPeople Action Weeks to be run by Fare Network in October. The #Morethanfootball Action Weeks, set for between 15 September and October 11, are a global campaign for the European football community to showcase the impact of their Community and Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and programmes.
They provide the wider European football family with a platform to inform and engage with fans and stakeholders on their CSR activities and raise awareness of the transformative role their programmes play in changing peoples’ lives for the better. During the Action Weeks, EFDN will support Fare Network by highlighting diversity and inclusion on specific action days through online challenges and various other #Morethanfootball activities.
The #FootballPeople Action Weeks, taking place from 8-22 October, 2020, will unite supporters, clubs, players, minority groups and communities affected by discrimination and united for equality. The period will mobilise over 150,000 people in a message of diversity and inclusion. More than 2,000 events are set to take place in over 50 countries making it one of the largest social change campaigns in football.
Whatever your role in football – as a club, an FA, a supporter or community group – this is an opportunity to stand together against racism, sexism, homophobia, and for inclusion, diversity and change. In recent years activities have taken place across the globe in almost every European country and in Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, the United States and South Africa. These have been supported by some of the biggest stars of football, such as Yaya Touré, Iker Casillas, Didier Drogba, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Casey Stoney, Anita Asante, Marco Verratti, Giorgio Chiellini and Edinson Cavani.
The rallying cry for the #FootballPeople weeks is Make it big, make it bold. The focus is to celebrate diversity and tackle discrimination. You might want to hold an activity that is related to Black Lives Matter, or #METOO to fight sexism, or a stand against Homophobia in football or to promote the inclusion of refugees. It might be about other ethnic minorities such as the Roma and issues affecting communities that are not well known. Work out the change you want to see and how you want to contribute to it.
