Community Cohesion – EITC hosts Healthy Lifestyles Tournament
On Wednesday 28th March 2018, The Community Cohesion team at Everton in the Community hosted a Healthy Lifestyle Event for 32 young people aged 15-16. Young people representing AFC Fylde, Blackburn Rovers, Everton and Preston North End’s PL Kicks projects were all in attendance.
The event used Football, UV Dodgeball and Boxing to engage young people in physical activity whilst workshops on topics such as Healthy Eating and Nutrition were also delivered. The event achieved fantastic outcomes with:
- 100% of the young people in attendance stating they would be more likely to lead a healthy
- 100% of participants stated they were more likely to eat healthy.
- 100% of young people would be more confident to advise friends on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.
- 90% of participants stated they understand how to read food labels.
Everton in the Community have previously delivered similar events on topics such as Knife Crime, Racism, Social Media Safety, Drugs and Alcohol and LGBT Awareness. Please see some selected outcome stats from these events below:
- 100% of young people would be less likely to carry a knife
- 100% of young people understand the consequences of carrying a knife
- 100% of young people would be less likely to use racist and discriminatory language/terminology
- 92% of young people understand the consequences of using racist and discriminatory language/terminology
- 100% of young people were more aware of the dangers of social media
- 100% of young people were more aware of how to report any online bullying/concerns
- 100% of young people understand the long-term side effects of drinking alcohol
- 100% of young people would be less likely to take recreational drugs.
- 92% of young people would be less likely to use discriminatory language/terminology when talking about the LGBT Community.
