CHELSEA FOUNDATION SUPPORTING A HEALTHIER WORLD FOR EVERYONE

As part of the #MoreThanFootball Action Weeks and to celebrate World Health Day 2021, the Chelsea Foundation is showcasing our ‘Scoring for Health’ project which aims to tackle obesity and raise awareness of the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.

The #MoreThanFootball Action Weeks is a global campaign for the European football community to showcase the impact of their community and social responsibility programmes.

Launched by the UEFA Foundation for Children and European Football for Development Network (EFDN), the ‘Scoring for Health’ project is driven by physical activity and fun, engaging game-based learning to help increase physical activity levels of participants and raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles.

The Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing team have been delivering the project virtually throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and are set to recommence weekly sessions in the coming weeks at Goldfinch Primary School, Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, Normand Croft Community School and Thomas’s Academy.

The programme involves theory-based sessions which include discussions on goal setting, eating well, label reading and portion sizes, while pupils are also provided with physical activity challenges and fun games to reinforce subjects taught in the classroom.

Health and Wellbeing project officer Ellie Lock said: ‘The Scoring for Health project has been a huge success over the past years of delivery.

‘The Chelsea Foundation Health and Wellbeing department have worked with multiple schools and hundreds of children to encourage healthier and happier lifestyles.

‘The importance of a project like this has been magnified over the past year, giving children ideas of how to be active at home, fun and tasty ways to eat well as a family and to learn through fun engaging games – even virtually!’

Teacher at Normand Croft, Simran Sandhu, said: ‘Class 5 are thoroughly enjoying Scoring for Health delivered by Ellie from Chelsea FC.

‘Each week, the children look forward to the sessions and enjoy the fun child-friendly fitness challenges they take part in.

‘The class are fascinated with the theory aspect of the sessions as they have gained knowledge about healthy eating habits and the human body.’
