Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s CSR work makes them #Morethanfootball
The professional German football club, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, announces on their website that they participate in the #Morethanfootball Action Week and informs about their local, regional, European and world-wide community engagement programmes.
Since years, Bayer 04 is at the forefront of Community and Social Responsibility work in German professional football. The club takes their societal role very seriously.
In 1999, Bayer 04 was one of the first clubs, which offered an assistance service for blind people in the stadium. Since then, viually impaired people have the possibility to attend matches of the ‘Welkself’ at the BayArena through appropriate accessible circumstances. Also, for disabled people, who are depending on a wheelchair special circumstances have been created. The target group is provided with the possibility to watch the match in the stadium’s roofed area, which gives the audience visible conditions.
During the #Morethanfootball week, Bayer 04 will carry out the following activities:
- On Sunday 02.04.2017, at the home match against Vfl Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen will raise awareness for people with a visual impairement.
- A ‘blind-stadium tour’ will be organised by the Bayer 04- Teens Club.
- Additionally, a blind football match will take place. Moreover, the teens will have the opportunity to get to know the service of the reporter for the blind at the home match against Vfl Wolfsburg.
- During the Action Week, 25 young adults from Austria Wien, the Tandem- Partner of Leverkusen, will visit Bayer 04. This is organised by the Scort Foundation, which is amongst others responsible for the development and organisation of the Fotball Club Social Alliance.
- In this regard, Bayer 04 is not only delivering social programmes in Europe (Ukraine, Kosovo) but also on a word-wide scale- in Columbia, Indonisia, India, Sri Lanca, Palestina, Sudan and Jordan.
- World-wide, 1400 young adults received training to become Young Coaches, which in return are delivering training to more than 30.000 children.
- Moreover, since 2005, Bayer 04 is supporting regional sport projects that are being delivered on an honorary basis. Every year, programmes are receiving prices and a prize money of 16.000 money is being handed out.
- Next to that, within the ‘Wir (04)helfen’ ‘We(04)are helping‘ initiative, employees, players and trainers are supporting the renovation of diverse projects in the local area on a frequent basis. In the past, help has been provided for the modification of kindergarden, children’s hospital and many other projects. This has also been in the form of donations. The money had been collected through the organisation of charity tournaments.

Bayer 04 beteiligt sich wie einige andere europäische Profivereine und Fußball-Stiftungen an der #MorethanFootball-Aktionswoche vom 30. März bis 9. April 2017. Im Mittelpunkt des Projekts steht das soziale Engagement, das bei Bayer 04 seit langen Jahren eine hohe Wertschätzung genießt und gelebt wird.
Bayer 04 war 1999 ein Vorreiter der Bundesliga mit seinem Blindenservicefür sehbehinderte Fans, die seitdem die Möglichkeit haben, die Spiele der Werkself auf der Südtribüne der BayArena zu verfolgen. Rollstuhlfahrer haben auf der Südtribüne einen eigenen, überdachten Bereich mit sehr guten Sichtverhältnissen und einer Sitzgelegenheit je Begleitperson. In der Zeit der #MorethanFootball-Aktionswoche veranstaltet der Bayer 04-Teens Club für Mitglieder und Freunde mit und ohne Sehbehinderung einen besonderen Tag: Beim Heimspiel gegen Wolfsburg am Sonntag steht die Sensibilisierung für das Thema im Vordergrund, dabei finden eine spezielle – nämlich blinde – Stadiontour und ein blindes Fußballspiel statt. Während des Spiels der Werkself lernen die Teens den Service der Blindenreporter kennen und erleben eine Werkself-Partie mal aus einer neuen Perspektive.
Zudem besuchen 25 Jugendliche von Austria Wien vom 2. bis zum 9. April ihre Leverkusener Tandem-Partner in der Organisation der Scort Foundation, die unter anderem für die Entwicklung und Organisation der Football Club Social Alliance verantwortlich ist. Dabei ist Bayer 04 seit 2009 nicht nur in Europa (Ukraine, Kosovo), sondern auch weltweit in Kolumbien, Indonesien, Indien, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Palästina, im Sudan und Jordanien tätig. Insgesamt wurden weltweit bereits über 1.400 Young Coaches ausgebildet, die ihrerseits weit über 30.000 Kinder betreut haben.
Außerdem führt Bayer 04 seit langem weitere soziale Herzensprojekte durch. Seit 2005 vergibt die Bayer 04 Sportförderung gGmbH an engagierte Vereine im Verbandsgebiet Mittelrhein und Niederrhein den Ehrenamtspreis, der für die Gewinner ein Preisgeld von insgesamt 16.000 Euro nach sich zieht.
Weiterhin packen die Bayer 04-Mitarbeiter, -Spieler und -Trainer im Rahmen des „Wir(04)helfen“-Tages tatkräftig bei Umbau und Verschönerung verschiedener Projekte in Kindergärten oder Kinderhäusern mit an, erledigen Gartenarbeiten, bauen Hütten und vieles mehr. Dazu stellte Bayer 04 in den vergangenen beiden Jahren jeweils 30.000 Euro zur Verfügung. Zweimal jährlich seit 2010 wird der „Einfach-Fußball-Cup“, ein Benefiz-Turnier für Kinder und Jugendliche mit körperlicher und geistiger Behinderung, ausgetragen.
