2020 #Morethanfootball Action Weeks: 15 September – 11 October
The 2020 #Morethanfootball Action Weeks start on the 15th of September and run until the 11th of October.
Football has always been much more than just a game. Football organisations all across the world have supported their communities throughout the pandemic and have launched new initiatives to help people stay safe, active and healthy. Unfortunately, people rarely see the stories of the excellent daily work being done through football organisations’ community and social development initiatives. Therefore, we are calling all stakeholders in football to participate in the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks. Together we showcase and further broaden the reach of Community and Social Responsibility in football.
The global campaign for the European football community to showcase the impact of their community and social responsibility activities and programmes is supported by the UEFA Foundation for Children, the ECA and the European Football for Development Network. The Action Weeks provide all community and socially engaged European football organisations with a platform to inform and engage with fans and stakeholders on their activities and raise awareness of the transformative role European club football can play in changing peoples’ lives for the better.
Organisations celebrate there initiatives and programmes through many different ways and new and creative initiatives are always encouraged. The previous three years have included activities such as special match-day activities, digital campaigns and the use of more traditional media methods such as banners, billboards, posters and brochures. This year, the focus is even more on digital content. Last year more than 100 clubs, leagues, FAs and other sports organisation participated and together we have reached more than 33 million people online. MORE THAN FOOTBALL AWARD
2019 saw the first #Morethanfootball Award ceremony at the 13th EFDN “CSR in European Football” Conference in Barcelona in November. Shakhtar Social Foundation won the first More than Football Award.
The goal of the More than Football Award is to honour the best social initiatives in Europe delivered by a European Club, League or FA by celebrating the work they do on and off-pitch on a local, national and international levels. We will hand out the Award for the best project promoted during the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks (15.09. – 11.10.2020), which will be assessed not only on the quality of the project but also on the level of promotion and engagement.
To be eligible for the Award, organisations should register as a participant and describe the details of their events and activities in an application form. The application form should be sent back by email to actionweek@morethanfootball.eu.
