Cardiff City FC Players Support Literacy Project

Cardiff City FC First Team players have generously made a donation to support the Foundation’s ‘All Skilled Up’ Literacy Project.

This particular programme aims to engage Key Stage 2 children across South Wales with literacy through the use of sport in order to improve their reading and writing skills as well as their attitudes and confidence towards literacy. The project is delivered through 90 minute sessions across the course of six weeks, with the first 45 minutes being dedicated to a literacy activity relating to sport, such as writing a match report, while the second half gets the pupils involved with some physical activity.

Recent National Reading and Numeracy Test Results show that 13.5% of year 5 boys and 12.9% of year 5 girls in Wales are below the national average for reading test scores, demonstrating the importance of projects such as these.

The Foundation is extremely grateful for the donation and would like to thank Cardiff City FC First team players for their generous donation.

Many of the first team players have experienced first-hand how football can act as a learning tool, and they will now go on to inspire the next generation to improve their literacy skills through the power of sport.
